[Movie] 5 Centimeters Per Second (2007)

Posted on November 3, 2014 by DC

As a saying goes, there’s only one thing constant in this world: change.

This film is about growing up, falling in love, and changing to adapt to reality. It features two kids who grew up together, and how they continued to grow up while they change schools, areas, and realities.

It deals with love and promises, heartache and difficulties, and dreams and realities. It’s got a lingering sadness in the background, complementing dark truths with beautiful scenery and animation.

Each movement, each line tugs at the heart, and their significance is not lost today.

Watch this movie if only to reminisce about a “what if”, and to feel the bitter regret for an “if only”. Just note that it tends to end not with the usual happy ending, but with one chock full of grey, cold-hearted actualities.

Still, perhaps there’s hope, too.
